 | Record Ninth Aussie Called Up to Major League Baseball 22-year-old West Australian pitcher Liam Hendriks is slated to be called up to the Minnesota Twins and make his debut as their starting pitcher on Tuesday. Upon his debut Hendriks will be the 31st Australian to play at the Major League level and the first to debut as a starting pitcher since Travis Blackley first appeared for the Seattle Mariners on 1 July 2004. The game will be televised live on ONE from 10am Wednesday 7 September 2011 (AEST) and offers the possibility of seeing three Australians take the field in one game as Liam joins his Perth HEAT teammate on the Twins roster as they host Victorian Shane Lindsay - Chicago White Sox. Lindsay became the 30th Australian to play MLB when he debuted with the Sox on Saturday (AUS time). | | » more |
