The MLBAAP is a platform for Australia's best young talent to develop, and that's exactly what New South Wales pitcher Mitchell Simon is doing
In his first year at the Academy the seventeen year old is taking it all in his stride. The daily games, sometimes double headers, constant training, gym sessions, information presentations in the evenings, as well as school;
“It is intense” laughed Mitchell, “I’m just getting right into it so that I can use everything the coaches teach me”.
From Wollongong on the NSW south coast, the dream started for Mitchell playing Little League for the Dapto Chiefs. Since then, he has been playing representative baseball for New South Wales and this year for Australia.
“I’ve represented NSW at the National Youth Championships since under 14’s, and in January this year I represented Australia in Guam at the AAA (Oceania) Championships” reflected Mitchell, who is focused at the Academy on making the National Team for the World Cup in Korea.
Currently in his final year of High School, the seventeen year old will mark two milestones whilst in the program on the Gold Coast; his eighteenth birthday and his HSC Trial Exams.
Mitchell will graduate from Year 12 at the end of this year and by that time he is hoping to have a contract with an MLB franchise;
“My plan is to get signed, that’s what I’m working hard towards, I don’t think I’d take the path of College” said the Canterbury Vikings right handed pitcher.
