Australia have beaten CNMI Saipan 9-5 in their first game at the 2012 Asia Pacific Little League Championships.
Coach Murray Kempton report: CNMI Saipan are supreme athletes from a small island nation displaying unexpected raw talent. They have made it to this tournament with very limited resources minimal staff assistance and no supporters. They made us play our best and we fought pitch by pitch for the win. The CNMI Saipan team have earned our respect and admiration as both players and now friends.
The Australian team suffered under hot and humid conditions with several players becoming fatigued and had to be substituted. I am very proud of the courage the team showed under pressure and in extreme environmental conditions which they are not accustomed to.
Our supporters are the reason that the team has been able to perform at their best with a special mention to Andrea Coffey our EO for the many hours she has given up to manage our team.
