Section I – General World Series Information

A.     WORLD SERIES HEADQUARTERS HOTEL              BABE RUTH LEAGUE, INC.

B.           ORIENTATION MEETING – All players, coaches, managers and business managers must report as a unit to the Wingate Inn on Tuesday, August 9th.

C.           World Series competition – Begins on Friday, August 12th with a pool play format and will conclude with a single-elimination format.  The World Series championship game will be televised live on Sunday, August 21st at 7:05 p.m. (Eastern Time).

D.          first round of games – Schedule as follows:

E.           complete game schedule  - The full schedule will be shown on the last page of the Host Family Booklet which you will receive at the orientation meeting.

F.            GAME FORMAT – All World Series games shall be six (6) complete innings, unless the home team is leading at the end of five and one-half (5½) innings of play.  In the event a game is called before completion, it shall later be completed from the point of discontinuance.

G.          HOTEL RESERVATIONS - One person must be designated to coordinate all hotel reservations for parents, friends and other fans.  Attached is a reservation form.  Once all reservations are complete this person must fax Donna Tarr, the completed form.

I.              NATIONAL PRIDE – Each team MUST bring to the World Series the flag of your Country to be flown at the World Series field, and a recorded copy of your National Anthem.

 

Section II – Team Travel, Housing and Feeding

 

A.          TransportationCopies of your team’s airline itineraries must be sent to Rosemary Schoellkopf at Babe Ruth League, Inc. Headquarters in Trenton, New Jersey. Bus transportation from the airport to the World Series location will be provided by the host community.

B.           official World Series Hotel – The translator/business manager, team manager and two coaches of each team will be housed at the official World Series Hotel listed on the first page of this memo.

C.           HOTEL ROOMS – Babe Ruth League, Inc. will supply each team with two rooms (with two beds in each room).  Costs associated with this lodging will extend only to the translator/business manager, team manager, and two coaches.  In the event a team manager or coach brings their family, they will be responsible for the additional cost of their lodging.

D.          PER DIEM – The team personnel (translator/business manager, team manager and two coaches) of each team will each be given $15 (U.S. dollars) per day for meals.  This applies only to full days in the host city.  (e.g. No per diem is paid on travel days.)

E.           HOST FAMILY HOUSING – All fifteen players per team shall be housed in private homes in the World Series community or its surrounding area.  An attempt will be made to have all members of the same team located in the same section so that contact and supervision can be easily accomplished.  At NO time will players be permitted to stay anywhere but their assigned Host Family homes.

F.      PLAYER PAIRINGS – Housing of players requires the team manager to immediately pair the players.  Each team will have seven Host Families – which means there will be two players per home with one home housing three players.  These pairings must be provided to Babe Ruth International League, Inc. Headquarters in Trenton, New Jersey either by phone, fax, or e-mail

G.     PLAYER MEALS – All fifteen players will have all meals in their Host Family homes or as arranged by the Host Families.

H.          BAT BOYS/GIRLS – No bat boys/girls will accompany teams.  Each team will be provided with a bat boy/girl from the local host community.

I.              POCKET MONEY – Make certain that your group has sufficient funds available for “out-of-pocket” expenses which it may encounter.

 

J.              TEAM ARRIVAL/DEPARTURE – All team members (including manager and coaches) MUST arrive as a team and depart as a team.  Any player, manager or coach who leaves the World Series prior to or after the team leaves will do so at their own complete expense.

 

Section III – Manager’s Instructions

 

A.     DOCUMENTATION – Refer to 2005 Babe Ruth League, Inc. Rules and Regulations, Tournament Regulations 11.04 Documents.  The following documents will be demanded by the World Series Credentials Committee in complete and accurate condition before your team will be allowed to participate in World Series games:

1.      Birth documents or records as specified by Rule 0.04-1 for each of the Tournament team players.

2.      Official Tournament Team Roster certified by your Federation President.

3.      Tournament Eligibility Form.

4.      Consent for Treatment forms for each of the Tournament team players.

B.      AUTOMOBILES – Each team manager will be provided with an automobile while at the World Series.  The manager is the ONLY person permitted to drive this vehicle.  The only passengers permitted in this vehicle are the two coaches of his team and the translator/business manager.  No other passengers are permitted in this vehicle.  The translator/business manager or team manager must present a valid driver’s license and copy of his automobile liability insurance policy to World Series Headquarters prior to the loaning of the automobile.  (AUTOMOBILES CANNOT BE TAKEN OUT OF THE WORLD SERIES AREA.)

C.     ACTIVITY SCHEDULE – A complete schedule of the week’s activities will be given at the team orientation meeting upon arrival at the World Series site.

D.     Practice fields will be assigned at the team orientation meeting.

E.      EQUIPMENT – You must bring your own team’s bats, catching equipment, practice balls, protective headgear and uniforms.

F.      UNIFORMS – IMPORTANT:  Each team member, team manager and coach must have a different number on his uniform shirt.  The manager and team coaches must all wear the same type of uniforms as the players.

G.     official Cal Ripken Baseball shoulder emblem – The shoulder emblem is mandatory for all competition and must be worn on the left shirt sleeve of the manager’s, coaches’ and players’ baseball uniforms.

H.     Conduct – Each manager and coach is responsible for their own personal conduct on and off the diamond.  They are also responsible for each team member’s personal conduct.  Everyone is now officially placed on notice that we want everyone to enjoy themselves at the World Series, but that no conduct which could be interpreted as detrimental to the basic aim of Babe Ruth League, Inc., which is “building better citizens”, will be tolerated.  Any team or individual whose conduct is not above reproach will be disqualified and sent home without delay.

 

I.       Team Composition – In accord with the 2005 Babe Ruth League, Inc. Rules and Regulations, Tournament Regulation 11.02-1 – each tournament team may consist of 15 players, 1 manager and 2 coaches.  A bat boy/girl for each team will be provided by the host community.  Only the players, managers, coaches and one bat boy/girl shall be authorized on the playing field and in the dugouts.  All such adults, players and bat boys/girls shall be in uniform.

 

J.       PLAYER SUPERVISION – It is apparent that the primary responsibility of the managers and coaches is the supervision of their players.  Carefully brief your players regarding their conduct on and off the field.

         NOTE:  Babe Ruth League, Inc. will provide all medical and scorekeeping personnel.

 

K.     NEATNESS – Teams should travel so that their appearance will be neat.  Remind all team members that neatness and cleanliness in dress and of person is always required.

 

L.      SKILLS DAY – A photography session, skills contest, and picnic will be held on Friday, August 12.  Each player, manager and coach must wear their team’s baseball uniform for the photography session and Skills Day. 

 

M.    Mail – All mail directed to you should be addressed to you at Babe Ruth World Series Headquarters Hotel at the address that appears on the first page.

 

N.     RETURN TRAVEL – Teams will depart from the World Series site on Monday, August 22nd.  Bus transportation to the airport will be provided by the host community.

 

 

Section IV – Players’ Information

 

A.          INFORMATION & ASSISTANCE – We want every participant to thoroughly enjoy themselves during the World Series.  If you need any information or want assistance, please do not hesitate to contact your team manager who may rely upon the aid of Babe Ruth League, Inc.

 

B.           Officials of Babe Ruth League, Inc. and the hardworking host community have made detailed and special efforts to make your stay pleasant.  However, we do expect your absolute cooperation concerning the following:

1.      CONDUCT – Your conduct must be above reproach.  Any misbehavior or misconduct could not only be cause for your disqualification from the Series, but also the disqualification of your team.

2.   SCHEDULE – Follow your game and activities schedule at all times without exception.

3.   CAL’S DAY FESITIVITIES – A photography session, skills contest, and picnic will be held on Friday, August 12.  Each player, manager and coach must wear their team’s baseball uniform. 

4.   KEEPING CONTACT – We require that each player be in contact with his team manager and/or coaches at all times when not in the Host Family’s home.

5.      NEATNESS – Teams should travel so that their arrival appearance will be first class.  Casual clothing may be worn on most occasions except the banquet.  Neatness and cleanliness of appearance is always required.

Section V – Press, Radio, TV Coverage – No Charge

 

World Series updates and scores will be posted at www.brlworldseries.com. 

 

If your local media want stories, box scores or pictures, or if they want highlights for radio sports shows or clips for Television, the Babe Ruth/Cal Ripken World Series public information staff will be ready to serve you.

 

This is a NO-CHARGE SERVICE.  Your cost is limited to telephone charges.

 

We will furnish brief phone reports for radio stations.  If you desire complete play-by-play, we will put you in touch with a radio station that will be willing to assist you.  Naturally, there will be a talent fee included for this type of coverage.
