SPECIAL OLYMPICS STATE CARNIVAL

Blacktown Olympic Park proudly hosted the Sydney West Special Olympics State Athletics Carnival on Saturday 8th April.

The "Flame Of Hope’’ Torch Relay was an inspiring start to the carnival with Councillor Leo Kelly, OAM Mayor Of Blacktown City officially opening the event at 9am.

Over 60 competitors from across NSW participated in the event at the world class Athletics facility. Track & Field events included sprints, walking, shot-put, discus and javelin events. A selection of these competitors will now go onto the National Games in Brisbane, a week-long event with over 800 athletes competing across Australia to be held in October.

The carnival was an outstanding success with all athletes enjoying the opportunity to compete and challenge themselves to achieve their goals.

SURVIVE THE RIDE EASTER EGG RIDE

The roar of bikes rang out through Blacktown Olympic Park on Sunday March 13 with over 350 motorcyclists arriving to experience the second ‘Survive The Ride’ Easter Egg Ride.

‘Survive The Ride’ is a motorcycle road safety campaign started in 2002, to encourage riders to be safe on the roads. This year’s event saw riders depart form Blacktown Olympic Park to raise funds and put a smile on the faces of the kids and staff at The Children’s Hospital Westmead including Survive the Ride Patron and keen Motorcyclist Tim Webster.

"I congratulate the team of Road Safety Officers from Auburn, Blacktown City, Holroyd and Parramatta & Strathfield Councils, and the Children’s Hospital Westmead, for their efforts in the event" said Cr Leo Kelly, OAM, Mayor of Blacktown City.

Organisers have declared the event a huge success with preparations underway for next year.
