The Cal Ripken World Series got off to an amazing start with the opening ceremony being conducted under a full moon with fire works. The Australian Team was the first team to enter the stadium to loud cheers of a full stadium and the many team supporters from both Australia and the USA.
As part of the opening ceremony a Pre-Tournament Skills Competition was conducted. The Australian Team of Justin Burke, Dylan Ridding, Lachlan Allen and Matthew Beattie showed that the boys from down under have what it team by becoming the first Australian Team to win the competition and Head Coach Bob Nilsson was amazed at the skills which the Australian boys showed.
The competition involved demonstrating a range of skills including;
1) Home Run Derby
2) Turn Two Competition (ground ball doubles)
3) Golden Spike Competition (base running)
4) Bean Bob Competition (throwing accuracy)
The ABF hopes that winning this competition kicks of what will be another great Cal Ripken World Series for Australia.
