BASEBALL INJURIES
PREVENTION AND MANAGEMENT

As part of his ongoing role with the ABF and as one of the pre-eminent voices on the management of baseball injuries in Australia - National Athlete Performance Manager, Bruce Rawson, is constantly looking for ways to improve the baseball fraternity’s understanding of the fundamentals associated with Sports Medicine and Spots Science as they relate to our game.

Bruce identifies that one of “our” problems in Australia is that the general baseball enthusiast does not have access to much information regarding basic sports injury management in baseball.  As such, two of Bruce’s goals are;

  1. To increase awareness of basic sports injury management (in baseball) and;
  2. Increase awareness of basic conditioning for baseball to allow development of long term athlete development.

Achievement of these goals will help to improve the standard of our entry level player base - which in turn should help with elite programs.

To this end, Bruce has identified a US website (American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine http://www.sportsmed.org/tabs/Index.aspx ) which has provided education (free downloadable) on "Youth baseball and softball injuries"

Even though some of the information is "American" by language and regional

Considerations - it may be a useful resource for coaches and athletes at various levels around the country.

The information is in form of downloadable handbook (click here for .PDF document) and also power point lessons on the website above.
