Alan gives us the run down on important dates for the Claxton Shield

2008 IndependentAdvice.com Claxton Shield

 

Preparations are well under way for the 2008 IndependentAdvice Claxton Shield with the first games of the competition being played just after Christmas with games in Canberra and Adelaide. You should take note of when games are being played in your city so you can see some of the best that Australian baseball offers.

 

Friday 28th and Saturday 29th December

Canberra is hosting the powerful NSW team for games against the Australian Provincial team at 7.30pm on the Friday with a Saturday double header at 3.30pm and 7.30pm. The venue will be the Narrabundah Ball Park. Baseball ACT has been working with local government to make some improvements to Narrabundah.

 

Adelaide will be utilising Woodville Oval as their venue for both of their series with day games being played at 3.30pm on Friday and 11.00am and 3.30pm on Saturday. This first series is against Victoria.      

 

Thursday 3rd, Friday 4th and 5th January

Perth will be hosting South Australian over three nights at Baseball Park Thornleigh with all games starting at 7.30pm. You can be guaranteed of a great night anytime Shane Tonkin gets behind a microphone. 

 

Brisbane will be hosting games at Redlands Baseball Centre on Friday and Saturday with games at 7.30pm and a 3.30pm game on Saturday.

 

Friday 11th and Saturday 12th January

Victoria will be host to Western Australia at Altona Stadium with games at 7.00pm plus a 3.00pm Saturday game.

 

The same week-end will see NSW hold their first series in the competition against the Australian Provincial at Blacktown Olympic Park (BOP) with similar game times.

 

Friday 18th, Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th January

South Australia has the Western Australian team back in town at Woodville Oval with two day games at 3.30pm and an 11.00am game on Saturday.  

 

Queensland has a slight change to the usual format and will play a single game at 7.30pm on Saturday 19th January following the finals of the AA National Championships that afternoon. On Sunday the doubleheader will be played at 3.30pm and 7.30pm. 

 

Thursday 24th, Friday 25th and Saturday 26th January

The Australia Day week-end will see Victoria travel to Perth for their 3 game series with games all scheduled for 7.30pm.

 

Canberra will host the Queensland team that same week-end at the Narrabundah Ballpark.

 

Friday 1st and Saturday 2nd February

The final week-end of the preliminary rounds sees Victoria at home against South Australia and NSW hosting Queensland at BOP.

 

Friday 8th, Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th February

The winners of each division will play off for the 2008 IndependentAdvice.com Claxton Shield at a venue to be determined by the ABF.
