Aussie Women Trounce
In the opening game of the 2006 Women's World Cup, which was broadcast live on television across Taiwan , , Australia sent an ominous warning to the rest of competition with a 22-2 trouncing of Hong Kong .
In what was truly an awesome hitting display, Renee Straumietis was the stand out with 3 hits, 2 doubles and 2 sacrifices. Katie Gaynor collected 3 hits including a 3B and 4 RBIs, whilst Amy McCann 3-4, 3B, 4 runs, and Samantha Hamilton 3 hits were also standouts. In total 8 players collected 2 or more hits.

In other Day 1 games, in a major upset, Canada beat beat USA 5-2 whilst Japan defeated Chinese Taipei 9-0.
