Announcement of 2004 National Women's team.....
' The Australian Baseball Federation has today announced the selection of the 2004 National Women's team. The 18 member team was selected from the 35 strong National squad that was selected from the recent National Women's Championships.
' The Australian Baseball Federation has today announced the selection of the 2004 National Women's team. The 18 member team was selected from the 35 strong National squad that was selected from the recent National Women's Championships.
The National team will be participating in two (2) tournaments this year. Firstly they wil be participating in the Womens Wolrd Series, to be staged in Uozu City, Japan from the 18 - 22 July. The team team will then be traveling to Edmonton, Canada to compete in the Inaugural IBAF Women's World Cup, from the 30 July - 9 August.
The team is a talented mixture of experience and youth. Familiar faces of veterans Samantha Hamilton (VIC) and Simone Wearne (VIC), will be joined by young stars Renee Straumeitis (NSW) and fresh faced rookie Chelsea Forkin (WA) in their pursuit of glory and international dominance.
Team head coach Grant Weir (VIC) is reserved, but quietly confident about the teams chances. 'Although I haven't seen our competition as yet, I'm confident our team will compete with anyone we come up against. We have the right combination of power, speed and experience to match it with the best of them and I know our ladies will handle the pressure of playing on the world stage. Our goal is to become the World Champions'.
The team will now be put through two (2) months of intensive training and preparation to ensure they are both mentally and physically prepared for the long tour.
The team has the best wishes and support of the entire Australian Baseball community. We know they will do their best and hopefully bring home gold.
