Sports CONNECT

The Australian Baseball Federation, with the support of the Australian Sports Commission, is committed to Sports CONNECT's Mission of creating pathways for athletes with a disability by breaking down the barriers to participation within Baseball. Baseball, as anyone that is involved in the sport knows, is an inherently inclusive sport.   We already have many examples and anecdotal stories coming from clubs regarding the inclusion of people with a disability.  Generally, if somebody wants to be involved in a baseball club - the club will just find a way to get them involved.

In order to capitalise on this, the ABF is delighted to be part of the Australian Sports Commission’s Sports CONNECT initiative. Sports CONNECT assists National Sports Organisations to better plan and implement inclusive strategies to include more people with a disability in sport.

Through CONNECT, the ABF will continue to develop and implement inclusive practices that ensure people with disabilities are involved in all facets of baseball, including full and equitable participation in grass roots to elite level baseball, in both a playing and non-playing role.  In the silver level of the ABF’s CONNECT Disability Action Plan (DAP), the ABF is showing its commitment to inclusion through:

·         The development of opportunities for baseballers with an intellectual disability.

·         Ensuring that the recruitment of non-playing participants is increased.

·         The development of a new inclusive coach education framework.

·         Ensuring that inclusion is made the core business of the ABF and it’s states.

·         The promotion of inclusive case studies
